Owl

Songwriter, guitarist and occasional cat-hero, Owl fed himself on a diet of folk (the likes of Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen), rock, world and *gasp* dance music from an early age. Not the kind of diet endorsed by the national association of dietitians (too many saturated phats, apparently) but nevertheless a sound basis for feeding his musical passion and his desire to write that perfect song. Its never gonna happen, of course (writing that perfect song) but its a dam site better to aim for than drinking Harry under the table at the Hog and Pistle down the road. Things he's been known to do: hooking up with, as it turns out, long time song writing and musical collaborator, Levannah, led to a stint in an afro-folk outfit called Ocean Road. In the mid-nineties they went on to form Qkumba Zoo which took South Africa by surprise, and got signed to Arista records in New York. Qkumba Zoo was a whirlwind experience and the band made two albums and played in venues round South Africa, America and Asia. Fast-forward to today, Owl now returns to his roots and plays his songs acoustically, with occasional guesting by Levannah. Contrary to what this biog might suggest, Owl spends way too much time being serious (although people have been noted to laugh at the split infinitives posted liberally around his lyrics) and writes reflective, sexy, thought provoking songs for the enjoyment of the more discerning crowd.

Levannah

Singer and sound healer Levannah presents an abstract sound piece called 'Saving the Rainforest'. 'Not exactly music' she says, the piece is partly poetry, partly song, and partly 'just sound'. Best heard with eyes shut. Best heard with heart open.
